free swap this weekend

It's a local form of Freecycle, sponsored by Joe Moore's office, the 49th Ward Green Corps and the City of Chicago Department of Environment, like a big yard sale, but everything is free! Drop off things you no longer want or need on Saturday. Come back on Sunday to take home something else that's useful to you. It's one way of recycling and keeping still usable stuff out of landfills.

The Swap will be held at 2017 W. Howard (just west of Damen), former site of the Dearborn Wholesale Store and Hi Neighbor Grocery. Drop off things you don't need that are still usable this Saturday 10/4 from NOON to 4 p.m. Come back Sunday 10/5 to take home something "new."

Anyone who drops off items on Saturday gets a ticket for first dibs on Sunday. This Preview Pick-Up happens from NOON to 2:00 p.m. After the Preview Pick-Up, it's open to anyone from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Below are some examples of items you might want to swap:

Household Goods, toys, art, furniture, craft materials, hardware
Jewelry, kitchen utensils, pots & pans, appliances, lamps, knick knacks
Wrapping paper, baby strollers & furniture, bed frames, books
DVDs & CDs, building supplies, bicycles, bookshelves, packing materials
Electronics, holiday decorations, garden supplies, divided plants-share hostas!
Plastic bins, lawn chairs, exercise equipment, sporting goods
Canned goods & non-perishable food, office supplies

Please DO NOT bring clothing, shoes, computers or hazardous materials.

Take a look in your attic, basement or storage locker. Check it out on October 4th and 5th!
